Summer School 2025

Wolfgang-Hillen Summer School 2025 in San Diego: Strengthening our Transatlantic Collaborations

With the generous funding that we received by the Bavarian Californian Technology Center (BaCaTeC), our students – Estelle, Rebecca, Emely, Bruno, Luís, Marie, Isis, and Viktoria – had the opportunity to take part in an inspiring summer school in San Diego together with 9 other PhDs and PostDocs from UCSD.

During the summer school, the participants had the opportunity to engage with Profs. Rusty Gage, Rob Knight, Jerome Mertens, and Bernd Schnabel. Moreover, they were able to present their own research and establish valuable connections with our colleagues in America.

Additionally to the academic lectures, the summer school participants had the opportunity to visit local industry partners Aspen Neuroscience and Neurocrine Biosciences and get a glimpse into how research works in an industrial setting in San Diego.

The final highlight of the summer school was the canoe trip along the beautiful California coast which helped to strengthen the team spirit and international bonds.

Thank you to Beate Winner, Claudia Günther and Johannes Schlachetzki for organising this event and to BaCaTeC for making it possible!

We are looking forward to welcome our American colleagues soon in 2026 for their visit to scenic Erlangen!
