Requirements Overview

The minimum requirements to be met by every member of GB.Com, who need to register at Life@FAU, on completion of their doctoral degree programme are defined in the following.

The doctoral student is supervised by a mentoring committe, consisting of 3 supervisors. A protocol of the supervisory meetings is mandatory. In addition, a short written report by the doctoral student about the state of the research has to be attached.

Minimum requirements:

  • For PhDs: First meeting within the first 3 months after joining GB.Com (see also Research Proposal).
  • For MDs: First meeting within the first 6 weeks after start of full time research activity.
  • Annual meetings after the initial meeting
  • Meeting at the end of the studies.

In your first Mentoring Committee meeting, you will have to present a written and an oral proposal for your reserach project.

Please make sure to have this meeting no later than three months after admission to Life@FAU/IZKF-GRK (Research Training Group) and submit your research proposal or project outline to your Life@FAU study book.

Every PhD and MD Student within the GB consortium needs to participate in the GB.Com Jour Fixe. To join the Jour Fixe, please email cornelia.redel-smirnov@uk-erlangen.de

Every first Friday of the month, 11 am – 1 pm

Minimum requirements:

  • 90% participation is mandatory. Attendance will be tracked via participation list.
  • You have to present your project once a year.

Participation in subject-specific, specialist or interdisciplinary training courses (e.g. IZKF, FAU Graduate Center), including one seminar on “Good Scientific Practice”.

Costs of seminars can be covered by the coordination of GB.Com (please contact Cornelia Redel-Smirnov).

Seminars offered by Life@FAU

Minimum requirements:

  • For PhDs: at least 3 training courses
    • One of which has to be Good Scientific practise
  • For MDs: at least 2 training courses
    • One of which has to be Good Scientific practise
  • Seminars have to be at least 4 hours.

Guest speaker seminars are lectures by renowned scientists from other domestic and foreign institutions. They must be publicly announced. The seminar must take place live.

    Minimum requirements:

    • For PhDs: ten seminars / year (30 total)
    • For MDs: at least ten in total

    It is mandatory to show a list of the visited Guest Speaker seminars during the annual mentoring meetings.

    We will plan a retreat annually. Our next retreat will be from October 28th to 30th, 2026 in Waischenfeld.

      • Attendance once / year.

      Every GB member should contribute to our work on public relations. The contribution needs to be regarding the scientific content of GB.Com.

      The coordinator will organize several events and inform you regularly about oportunities. Please contact Cornelia if you would like to participate.

        Minimum requirements:

        • Required once at an public event or participation of 12 months at social media communcation.

        Doctoral candidates are required to provide evidence of having given presentation (poster or talk) at different national or international symposia or conferences.
